Japan has earned a reputation for exporting successful products and services from different industries. In technology, Sony and Nintendo are among the most internationally recognized brands. In education, the tutoring centre Kumon has franchises across the world.

But when it comes to the education technology industry, few people outside the country can name Japanese companies off the top of their heads. And for Norihisa Wada, an education investor who treeks the globe in search of promising EdTech startups, that lack of exposure is one of the biggest challenges currently facing Japan’s education technology industry.

From government-led initiatives to social challenges in a post-Covid-19 world, Japan opens its doors to foreign investment and talents.

To overcome these challenges and achieve sustainable economic growth, innovation is indispensable; and, it is important to stimulate the global flow of human resources, technology, and capital that will be the source of such innovation. Japan is expected to be a leader in tackling these future challenges, and is changing to meet the moment. That is in part why the country is liberalizing its economy further, and laying the foundations necessary to attract even greater foreign direct investment (FDI) and talent from overseas.

The establishment and development of an innovation ecosystem for global startups, and the immediate creation of a business and living environment conducive for foreign companies, are also being promoted.

Not really! We are inviting startups and small, medium edtech enterprise to apply. If you have an attractive edtech product-solutions, and ready to showcase and run some pilots or demos, you are more than welcome to apply. Have the passion to expand your business abroad!

It is not necessary, all our online and webinar sessions will include simultaneous interpretation (English and Japanese).

A selection panel will review your pitch and demo presentation. At the same day will announce the 2 winners; considering the potential scalability of your solutions in Japan, availability to open an satellite office in Fukuoka city and motivation to apply for the Fukuoka City Startup program and exploration of soft-landing in Japan (Fukuoka City).
